Nigeria Acquires New Warship

The Nigerian Navy has acquired a warship as part of efforts to tackle the issue of insecurity in the country.

After five weeks and three stops in Trinidad and Tobago, Senegal and Ghana, the warship named NNS Okpabana – an Igala word for thunder – finally berthed in Lagos.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, who received the vessel in Lagos, said that the arrival of the vessel would help the Navy improve its war on maritime crimes.

“It is worthy of note to state that the successes recorded by NNS Thunder in curtailing threats in our maritime domain and the larger Gulf of Guinea region, with the confidence reposed in our country by the USA, that made it possible to acquire NNS Okpabana.

“The addition of this ship into the NN fleet will certainly bolster our zeal to end the menace in our maritime domain and the region, as well as support the regional and global effort to eliminate transnational maritime threats.

“This nation has always requested the navy to do more and with this, the government recognises that there must be needed platform for the navy to do its job well.

“The present government headed by President Goodluck Jonathan took the recapitalisation of fleets as a huge challenge and has invested huge funds through the acquisition of two Off-Shore Patrol Vessels (OPV) from China and this one from USA.

“It is hoped that by the time we take delivery of all, the NN will be better for it,’” Jibrin said.

The unique event, which took place at the Naval dockyard in Lagos, brought together officers from the Nigerian Navy, Army, Police, personnel of the United States Embassy and military and other special guests.

The US Ambassador, James Entwinstle, who was represented by the US Consul General, Jeffrey Hawkins, stated that the United States’ support for Nigeria is hinged on its interest in seeing a well policed Gulf of Guinea.

“Many of the regions’ security challenges come from the sea, and this powerful new naval platform will enhance Nigeria’s ability to control the maritime environment.

“Okpabana is the first Nigerian vessel to have a Regional Maritime Awareness Capability (R-MAC) system on board.

“This system will link back to the NN wider R-Mack network and expand NN’s ability to track and identify vessels throughout the Gulf of Guinea,” he said.

Family source reveals how Oge Okoye snatched ex-husband from Nkiru Sylvanus

Earlier this week, the husband snatching drama between Actresses Oge Okoye, Nkiru Sylvanus and Stanley Duru (Oge’s ex hubby) hit the blogosphere.

The reports claimed Nkiru Sylvanus was making plans to tie the knot with Oge’s ex- husband and father of her two kids, Stanley Duru.

Many have since labelled Nkiru a husband snatcher but a family member has come out to defend the Actress and told the true story.

The family source told Ynaija thus; “It is funny how the media is blaming Nkiru when it is actually a complicated affair. Oge and Nkiru used to be close friends, they met Stanley at the same time in Enugu in 2006. Nkiru and Stanley fell in love and Oge the back stabber, knew this yet somehow she sheepishly let Stanley impregnate her. Nkiru was hurt but she let go of the love of her life for a friend, she didn’t want her to be put to shame and mocked for having a child out of wedlock. So, Oge Okoye and Stanley Duru moved to Amsterdam and got married.”

She went on to add, “Of course a dog will always return to its vomit, after having their first son, Oge cheated on Stanley with a friend of his and he paid her back by dating one Dutch lady, Barbara with whom he now has a child, Uchechi, but let’s leave that story for another time. They somehow reconciled and she took in again and delivered a baby girl in 2010 but they officially parted ways in 2012, you media people didn’t know that, did you? On realizing they were both single again, Nkiru and Stanley reconnected and they regretted letting each other go. They got really close after Nkiru escaped from the kidnappers’ den.

“Apparently, Oge is unbothered by her friend Nkiru getting married to her ex. The “source” said,

“She (Oge) is not furious, she is not devastated at all. She and Stanley parted ways since and she has moved on. Moreover she has no reason to be hurt, after all she snatched Stanley from my cousin first

It would be recalled that Nkiru recently said in interviews that she has no problem being a second wife, she said, “If the situation and the person is good, I’ll go for it. I’ve said it before that if ladies don’t stop this nonsense they call ‘one-man-one-wife’, many of them will get to 40 and still remain single. There are more women than men. Go to churches, the number of single ladies in most cases is three times the number of single guys”.
